Profile: Pat McKeough
Canada's King of Stock Pickers

Pat McKeough has often been called Canada's top newsletter advisor. And with good reason. McKeough looks at fundamentals and potential. His is a quality analysis with a low risk philosophy. And his track record is excellent.

In late 1996, he was one of eight mutual fund managers and stock advisors selected by The Globe & Mail to pick just one stock for 1997. While others selected oil and gas stocks or mines or manufacturing, McKeough got down to basics - he selected Canada Bread.

By the end of 1997 Canada Bread had gained 84%, topping the list. He beat second place Michael Irwin of the renowned ABC Mutual Funds by almost double. Irwin's pick, Occidental Petroleum, only gained 48%.

McKeough got his start in the newsletter business in 1974 as editor of The Investment Reporter where his Benjamin Graham value approach to investing served him in good stead.

In 1980 and 1981 he won First Prize for Editorial Excellence in a Financial Advisory Publication from the Newsletter Publishers Association based in Washington, D.C., the only editor to date to ever win that honour for two consecutive years.

From 1984 - 1989 the highly respected Hulbert Financial Digest which rates newsletter writers ranked him third over all, a feat Forbes considered remarkable since the Canadian stock market, then as now, lagged the U.S..

In 1991 Pat predicted the great bull market of the 1990's (while others were pessimistic and even predicting a great depression.)

And in 1993 he published his book, Riding the Bull which elaborated on his thesis.

In January 1995 he struck out on his own with the first issue of The Successful Investor. He has since added three more publications, Stock Pickers Digest for more aggressive investors, The Wall Street Forecaster which focuses on American stocks, and Canadian Wealth Advisor for mutual fund investors.
